The Tile Panel provides a high quality opening for access to building services in ceramic tiled walls. Each panel is made to suit the individual tile & combination of tiles being used. This ensures no unsightly tile cuts or visible frames to disrupt the overall tiled finish. With whole tiles on the door face and no disrupted tile joints the panel’s position is then difficult to identify.

The design utilises a continuous piano hinge that limits door sag to a minimum thus avoiding chipped tiles caused by the door dropping as it is opened. As tile joints are normally no more than two or three millimetres any fall in the door can cause tile damage. Once adjusted for the weight of the tiles, the design ensures no further door drop caused by play in the hinge mechanism and no subsequent tile damage.

The panel comes finished fully powder coated white with the door tray boarded as a base for the tiles. The door tray can be removed after tiling if required. Adjustment of the angle of the door tray is achieved using schims behind the hinge bolts to achieve the correct position. The door is fitted with either a budget lock accessed by a chrome escutcheon to the outer face or with a touch catch mechanism.

The panel is available fire rated up to two hours. The design is similar to the standard door with the fire rating technology incorporated to the rear of the panel. When fitted the fire rated panel is entirely hidden behind the tiles.

Various lock, frame or door tray options can be specified if a visible edge is required for aesthetic purposes or if the panel is to be fitted after tiling has been completed. Designed for standard tile depths up to 10mm but deeper tiles can be used. Please call for advice for use with marble tiles or drawings specific to your project.

Technical & Fitting Details

Door tray & frame – Formed from 1.5mm gauge Zintec electro-galvanised mild steel finished in polyester powder coat white RAL 9010 20% Gloss.

Hinge & Lock mechanism – Full length piano hinge welded to the rear of the door tray. Budget lock bolted to the door tray with tongue locating into a slot in frame. Lock access via drilled hole in face of tile with edge of hole covered by chrome escutcheon projecting 12mm into the tile.

Fire Certification - Panels tested up to 2 hours by Chiltern International Fire (TRADA) Ltd.

Preparation of the wall - Form a clear opening in the structure 10mm higher and 16mm wider than the panel ordered. (Assuming hinged edge is in the vertical plane). Please note that fire rated doors need to be fixed on all four sides. In shaftwall situations the void between the two leaves of plasterboard need to be bridged to prevent fire from reaching the supporting studwork. Do not insert fire rated doors in timber lined openings. As the door is designed for whole tiles either tile from the door with the door dictating the tile positions or position the door very carefully to line through the grout gaps. DO NOT tile the area immediately adjacent to the panel until the panel has been fitted and adjusted where necessary either with schims on the hinge or by adjusting the frame position.

Preparation of the panel - Tile the door face and allow to set before offering up to the wall. Ensure the grout gaps on the door face are the same width as the grout gaps in the wall and that the tile edges cover the edges of the door tray.

Fitting - Offer the door up to the prepared opening and screw fix through the pre-punched fixing holes. The door does not need to be removed from the frame. Fix the tiles surrounding the door face ensuring enough gap for the door to operate. With tiles in excess of 10mm in order to maintain the same grout gap at the hinged edge the adjacent tile may need chamfering to the rear for clearance. This should not affect the appearance.

Operation – To open the panel with the touch catch push on the door face at mid height on the leading edge of the door. With a budget lock use the key supplied.

Availability – Ceramic panels are made to order to suit each tile size and grout gap situation. Allow 2/3 weeks delivery.
